  Anti-hepatitis Medicine !

                                        New effective treatment of hepatitis C

Hepatitis C is a serious disease, but the biggest threat to someone's health is not the virus itself. Rather, it is the diseases that can result from it such as reduced liver functioning, scar tissue in the liver and potentially cirrhosis. A new study shows that the antiviral treatment which has been used to fight the disease over the last five years, also helps improve the complications which follow. It can often take 20-30 years from being infected with hepatitis C until a person experiences the symptoms. During that period the liver inflammation becomes chronic for the majority of patients and serious damage develops. With the study, researcher now know that even though the patients discover the disease late, the new treatment gives them good chances of a more positive prognosis. Simply because the liver is on the mend when they become free of the virus. The researchers followed 71 patients with chronic liver inflammation before, during and after treatment. The studies showed that the inflammation in their liver diminished, that there was less scar tissue, and that the liver improved its ability to break down various substances. At the same time, the researchers could measure that the patients reacted quicker to sounds than before they began the treatment. If the people in the risk category contacted the healthcare system, researcher would be able to save or improve the lives of a great many people.

 Eating in 10 Hour Window !

                                 Eating within 10-hour window help stave off diabetes, heart disease

Researchers found that a 10-hour time-restricted eating intervention, when combined with traditional medications, resulted in weight loss, reduced abdominal fat, lower blood pressure and cholesterol, and more stable blood sugar and insulin levels for participants. Circadian rhythms are the 24-hour cycles of biological processes that affect nearly every cell in the body. Increasingly, scientists are finding that erratic eating patterns can disrupt this system and increase the risk for metabolic syndrome. Researcher suspected a 10-hour eating intervention might be beneficial because of Satchidananda Panda's pioneering work in animals, which showed that time-restricted eating led to dramatic health benefits, including a healthier metabolism. The pilot study included 19 participants (13 men and 6 women) diagnosed with metabolic syndrome who self-reported eating during a time window of more than 14 hours per day. Additionally, 84 percent of participants were taking at least one medication such as a statin or an antihypertensive therapy. Study participants used the Panda lab's myCircadianClock app to log when and what they ate during an initial 2-week baseline period followed by the three-month, 10-hour time-restricted eating intervention. Nearly 86 percent of participants correctly logged their food using the app, indicating high compliance throughout the study. To reduce food intake to the 10-hour window, most participants delayed their first meal and advanced their last meal each day, so meals were not skipped. Although calories were not recommended to be reduced for the intervention, some participants did report eating less, likely due to the shorter eating window. The study includes additional measures that will help the researchers investigate changes in body composition and muscle function.

 DNA Replication Stress !

                           How cells relieve DNA replication stress

DNA stores all of the information necessary for life phenomena, and a cell transmits its own genetic information to two daughter cells through DNA replication and cell division. Replication stress can be caused by extracellular and intracellular sources during DNA replication, which leads to slowed or stalled replication. If cells do not properly cope with such risks, chromosome break and rearrangement will occur, resulting in genomic instability. That helps explain why replication stress is one of the major contributors to cancer development. Although many DNA repair proteins function to protect and restart stalled replication process under stress condition, it is still unclear how replisome proteins, which are real players in DNA replication, contribute and communicate with those proteins to ensure faithful DNA replication. ATAD5 proteins play an important role in the DNA replication process itself, so experimentally reducing the amount of ATAD5 in cells results in many abnormalities associated with normal DNA replication. Under these experimental conditions, researcher found that, when ATAD5 level is reduced, cells cannot resume DNA replication stalled by replication stress, but increases genome instability such as intracellular chromosome breakage and micronucleated reticulocytes in mouse blood. This means that ATAD5 contributes to maintaining genomic stability by restoring DNA replication under replication stress. The researchers found that ATAD5 promotes RAD51 recruitment to stalled replication sites by direct protein-protein interaction. Replication stress can be caused by extracellular sources such as oncogenes and chemicals. However, recent studies have shown that intracellular sources such as DNA-specific structures or the abnormal function of specific proteins can also provoke replication stress.

Pregnancy and Cancer Metastasis !

                                 Evolutionary connection between pregnancy and cancer metastasis

Researcher used pregnancy to unlock a missing link between various species of mammals and cancer malignancy fundamentally changing the way we look at cancer metastasis. In many mammals, the placenta invades the wall of the uterus during pregnancy in the same way that cancer cells invade surrounding tissues. In other mammals including cows, pigs, and horses the placenta does not invade as aggressively. Interestingly, in these mammals, tumors rarely metastasize or spread. Looking at cells from endometrium of various species, researcher found that in order to resist invasion of the placenta, certain species have evolved over time to make their stromal cells the connective tissue cells in an organ highly resistant to any invasion. In contrast, humans are particularly vulnerable to cancer metastasis owing to their highly invasive placentation during pregnancy. This study identified the cause linking the curious similarity between pregnancy and cancer invasion across various mammals. Researcher continues, in humans, unfortunately, the invasion in pregnancy as well as by cancer is much less controlled. Interestingly, there are mammals where both pregnancy and cancer malignancy are highly controlled. These mammals (the two hoofed animals: cows, horses, pigs, etc.) have evolved their barrier to invasion. Researcher has unveiled the exact genes which are different in the supportive stromal tissue between humans and these animals, opening an entirely new field of changing the stromal surrounding of cancer to limit cancer invasion in a guided way. The findings can revolutionize our way of thinking about cancer metastasis and allow development of new therapeutics. Making human cells similar to cow cells, for instance, could potentially make humans more resistant to the spread of cancer.

 Remission Prostate Cancer !

                                 Being active reduces risk of prostate cancer

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the World, yet we still don't know all of its causes. The largest ever study to use genetics as a measurement for physical activity to look at its effect on prostate cancer, reveals that being more active reduces the risk of prostate cancer. Over 140,000 men were included in the study, of which, 80,000 had prostate cancer. Researcher found that people with the variation in their DNA sequence that makes them more likely to be active, had a 51 per cent reduced risk of prostate cancer than people who did not have this particular variation. Importantly, the findings relate to overall physical activity, not just intense exercise. This large study, which uses genetics as a proxy measurement for physical activity, shows that being active may in fact have a large impact on prostate cancer risk. To date there has been little evidence of ways to reduce prostate cancer risk other than maintaining a healthy weight. Lead researcher said that this study is the largest-ever of its kind which uses a relatively new method that complements current observational research to discover what causes prostate cancer. It suggests that there could be a larger effect of physical activity on prostate cancer than previously thought, so will hopefully encourage men to be more active. This new type of study that combines genetics, lifestyle and cancer risk, supports previous evidence from observational studies that being active can reduce the risk of cancer.

 New Spray Gel !

                                                                 New spray gel could help take the bite out of frostbite

Mountaineers and winter sports enthusiasts know the dangers of frostbite the tissue damage that can occur when extremities, such as the nose, ears, fingers and toes, are exposed to very cold temperatures. However, it can be difficult to get treated quickly in remote, snowbound areas. Now, researchers have developed a convenient gel that could be sprayed onto frostbite injuries when they occur, helping wounds heal. Conventional treatments include immersing the body part in warm water, applying topical antibiotic creams or administering vasodilators and anti-inflammatory drugs, but many of these are unavailable in isolated snowy areas, like mountaintops. Others, such as topical medications, could end up freezing themselves. To develop their spray, the researchers packaged heparin, an anticoagulant that improves blood flow by reducing clotting and aiding in blood vessel repair, into liposomes. These lipid carriers helped deliver heparin deep inside the skin. Researcher embedded the heparin-loaded liposomes in a sprayable hydrogel that also contained ibuprofen (a painkiller and anti-inflammatory drug) and propylene glycol, which helped keep the spray from freezing at very low temperatures. When the researchers tested the spray gel on rats with frostbite, they found that the treatment completely healed the injuries within 14 days, whereas untreated injuries were only about 40% healed, and wounds treated with an antibiotic cream were about 80% healed. The spray reduced levels of inflammatory cytokines at the wound site and in the blood circulation, which likely accelerated healing, the researchers say.
